Travel Hockey

2008 Midget Travel Hockey Season

All skaters born in 1993, 1992 (Midget Minors) and 1991, 1990 (Midget Majors).

Tryouts: Monday, July 21 (7:45pm - 9pm) and July 22 (8pm - 9pm) at the Whittemore Center. Players need to attend both sessions.

Non-refundable deposit of $150 due no later than July 22. This may be completed on the Registration page.

Tryouts and Team Selection Details

Tryouts are very important this year as it appears we may have enough skaters for 1 Major team and 2 Minor teams. If there are 2 Minor teams, we will balance the teams and request they play in the same tier in the Granite State League. Having the Majors attend tryouts allows us to gauge the skill of all players, will give the players an opportunity to get on the ice a few times before practices commence, and will allow the coaching staff to prepare in advance of the season.

Until all famililies register, the size of the rosters and the season fee are unknown. Please spread the word. The 2007 season fee was $650, and we will do everything we can to keep the fee as close to this as possible.

A note on rosters - Minors will only be moved to the Major level if the number of Majors dictates this move. If necessary, a few 2nd year Minors may be moved to the Major's roster based on skill level. The focus will be to move the fewest number of 2nd year Minor players required to make the Major roster viable, not to fill the Major roster to the maximum level. If the Major's roster is viable without additional players, all Minor age players will play on one of the Midget Minor teams.

Registration Details

In addition to the ORYA registration, this year you will be required to register your player with USA Hockey online. This is a change mandated by the Granite State League. Visit www.usahockey.com, and under the 'Player's Tab' choose 'Register Online'.

Important: You will need to email your player's USA Hockey registration confirmation number to ortravelhockey@gmail.com in order for us to add your player to the team roster. Because this registration is independent or ORYA, you can do this today. We *MUST* have your USA Hockey confirmation number no later than July 22.

Scheduling and Location

With the possibility of 3 midget teams (2 Minors and 1 Major), and the limited availability of ice at the Whitt, the majority of practices and many 'home' games will be held at the Rochester arena. We will schedule as many games as possible at the Whitt depending on available ice.

2008 - 2009 Travel Hockey Season

It might be hot and you can be sure there is no ice at the Churchill Rink, but it's time to register for the 2008-2009 Travel Hockey season. The ORYA fee for the season is $915 per player. In addition, due to a change made by the league, you must also register your player(s) with USA Hockey online. This is an additional fee of $31. In the past ORYA has collected and submitted this fee to USA Hockey on your behalf, but the league now requires each family to register directly with USA Hockey.

This brings the total fee for the season to $946.

Please submit a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of $150 by June 30, 2008, and know the balance is due on or before October 1, 2008. No player will be allowed on the ice until the fee is paid in full.

To register through ORYA, please click here.

To register with USA Hockey, please visit www.usahockey.com, place your mouse over 'Players" in the top left bar, and click "Register Online'.

All teams will be participating in both the Seacoast and Granite State Leagues. The number of games each team will play is determined by the number of teams in each tier, which is set by the leagues in late October or early November.

On-ice practices will begin mid to late October, depending on the availability of ice at the Churchill Rink. It is likely the coaches will be looking to get teams together prior to the on-ice practices for team meetings, off-ice training, etc.

We will be bringing a new player development program to ORYA Travel Hockey this year. Coaches Bruce Hird and John Woods have agreed to develop and implement a program whicyh will focus on incremental skills development for all teams. This is the same method used by many of the elite programs, and we are very fortunate to be able to offer it to our players.

Philbricks will again be our source for jerseys and socks, and we'll let you know when they will be ordering jerseys. This is typically in late August or early September.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the ORYA office at 868-5150, or send an email to ortravelhockey@gmail.com.
